Wide filling openings are handy for shallow sources. Narrow bottles are often more pleasant in a side pocket of a backpack, but more difficult to fill. Soft squeeze bottles sometimes provide a higher flow rate, while hard bottles can feel more durable. Neither is inherently better. The choice depends on your carrying method and usage rhythm.
Also pay attention to compatibility. Does the bottle fit into your existing gear, such as a cup holder, backpack system, or bug-out bag? For a prepper, gear is not a standalone product, but a system. A good filter bottle must logically fit into it.

The biggest mistake is testing with clean tap water and drawing conclusions from that. That says little about real performance.
